LOOKS DESCRIPTION: A rather mousy boy. Kiku is short, a bit on the scrawny side for a ninja, and often appears nervous. He has shoulder-length red hair which he normally keeps in a ponytail, though occasionally some escapes and gets in his face. Kiku prefers to wear businesslike attire, and has had the luck to find suits that can hold up in a fight. He almost always wears a clip-on tie so that it can't be used to choke him in a fight.



PERSONALITY INFORMATION: Kiku is not a confident guy. He's been pushed around a lot for his small stature and bookish nature, so he tries to avoid the limelight for fear of being embarrassed. Kiku usually keeps to himself, finding quiet spots where he can read without bothering anyone. It should be noted that he sees it as him bothering someone if somebody comes over to give him a hard time. He figures he must have done something to piss them off, and will apologize profusely for whatever it is. He's generally a nice guy and wants to help, but usually lacks the confidence to do much.

The flipside of this is that Kiku has no idea what to do with positive attention. Praise and compliments make him freeze up. If someone offers a high five, his first instinct is to brace to get slapped. His second instinct is to stare in confusion because what did he do right? Physical contact is even worse. If someone hugs him he either stands stiff as a board or flails helplessly. He's also easily embarrassed, turning redder than his hair at the slightest provocation.

This introverted nature has caused Kiku to withdraw into books and scrolls. He reads extensively, and has spent pretty much his entire life well above the reading level for his age. It has also caused him to practice his ninjutsu extensively, since the training areas have lots of secluded spots where he can find some peace and quiet. He still doesn't like the physical aspects as much, but he's willing to put up with them.

HISTORY
Kiku was a foundling. His mother couldn't take care of him, and left him in the semi-capable hands of Soragakure's foster care system. There he learned important lessons, like that he was a nerd and a crybaby. He was the runt of the litter, and that made him easy prey for the bigger kids. The system responded by shuffling him from place to place, in hopes of finding somewhere where he wouldn't be constantly picked on. After that continually failed, he decided to just live with it and stopped telling when it happened. Things didn't get more pleasant after that, but at least they were more stable.

When he was old enough, Kiku enrolled in the academy. He hoped it would be an escape from the usual schoolyard bullying. It wasn't, but it did take some of the pressure off at home. The non-ninja kids were a bit more hesitant to pick on the nerd who had the straight-A report card for fire ninjutsu hanging on the fridge. He still got the same treatment at the academy, but he'd gotten used to it by then.

Since making genin, Kiku hasn't distinguished himself much. He has mostly stuck to easier missions, not trusting himself with anything too dangerous or important. He's tried to keep a low profile, not attracting much attention.
